Bon jour.. Here in Congo they speak French and mostly Lingala. No English at all. There a select few who do including my interpreter this morning. I found out when he was translating that Lingala was the first official language but when it was formed, words like car, computer, etc. didn't exist so they had to add French words for them so it's a mixture!! I thought that was very interesting. They also have around 250 tribes in Congo and each tribe has it's own dialect. I have posted a few pictures but i tell you words cannot express what I see!! I will do my best to give a description. Remember too that any pictures i have taken have been very discreet because if they see you taking pictures they will take your camera. I wish each of you could Just ride down the road once with me and you would NEVER complain about anything again. We are so blessed. Let me put it this way, if you were to go to the poorest place in Dallas it would be middle class here! Take your worst day and it would be a good one for the Congolese! We are blessed!! I have seen poverty in Costa Rica like this, but it was only in certain areas. Here, the poverty Is everywhere! I'm not talking bad about the country, just what I see. Garbage is everywhere, layer upon layer, cars are trashed, there are hundreds of Mutatas- public transportation (picture a VW van) with people crammed into them and hanging outside. Fires burning everywhere, piles of garbage with people going through them collecting. Roads are a mixture of sand and asphalt. Not lots of cars, mostly the mutatas crammed with people. But oh when I stepped in to that church.. It was a piece of heaven. People were so well dressed, there was so much order and respect in there. There was such a joy in the people and such a deep love for God. The church probably holds 800-1000 and it was packed with a couple hundred seats on the outside that were full as well! I preached "The Drought is Over" and the rain of the Holy Spirit fell and the altars were full! Well, I better stop before I preach. Conference starts tomorrow.
